Flaxton Gardens

A couple of weeks ago, on behalf of my sister and her fiance, my mum and I met with the wedding coordinator of Flaxton Gardens. Flaxton Gardens is located in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and this is the venue my sister has decide to be married at.

The wedding coordinator was very friendly, inviting and was able to take us through the first stages of organising the wedding. At this initial meeting we discuss the venue, the ceremony location, reception area, where photos will be taken, a usual run down of the day, food and beverage options, centerpieces/decorations included in the package and accommodation.

We were able to have a look around the venue and were very impressed with what they are able to offer. The location is amazing with stunning views straight out to the ocean. Let’s hope that the wedding day will be as gorgeous as the day we visited Flaxton Gardens.

Now that we have met the wedding coordinator and a date has been set, the planning and coordination of the other vital bits and pieces can commence.

An Autumn Wedding

Autumn can be a warm and cool time of year to be married. The days are usually still pleasant but the nights can become quite cool, especially when it starts getting closer to Winter. There are many fabulous ideas to help with your wedding day in the Autumn months. Here are a few that you maybe interested in.

You will find the colours of an Autumn wedding will vary to those preparing a summer, winter or spring wedding and visa versa. As we all know flowers are very seasonal, therefore matching the time of year and flowers will also determine the types of colours that are available. Intern, this can also determine the colour theme of your wedding ceremony, reception and perhaps your bridal wear.

Flower colour ideas:

Autumn Flowers suitable for your wedding flowers include:

  • Roses
  • Calla lilies
  • Gerberas
  • Gloriosa lilies
  • The Oriental, Asiatic and November lilie
  • Gypsophila , better known as ‘Baby’s Breath’
  • Slipper orchids (Paphiopedilum spp.)
  • Carnations
  • Banksia
  • Leucadendrons
  • Gum nuts and Berries in all colours, pepper, Privet, ivy berry.

Looking at the photos from Autumn weddings above, the dark richer tones are quite popular. Bouquets, centerpieces, bridesmaid dresses, decorations etc all appear to incorporate the deep oranges, dark reds, purples, maroon, and black. Bouquets and other decorations appear to include more of a nature style with branches and colourful leaves for a touch of difference.

With an Autumn wedding your photographer can capture some great moments, particularly if your wedding theme ties in with the Autumn season and colours mentioned above. The wedding venue can also play a huge part in the type of wedding photography. A setting in the wineries or a garden would look perfect especially when the venue is likely to have a country, rustic like feel to it. The colours of the leaves, trees, flowers and vineyards can create a beautiful backdrop for your photos. Have a look at some gorgeous wedding Autumn photography below for some inspiration:

Wedding Expo

Today we visited the Wedding Expo at the Big Pineapple on the Sunshine Coast. The event was free and was a great opportunity for brides to be, their fiances and family members to attend and gain an understanding as to what is involved with planning their wedding.

The expo was smaller than others that I have attended but was still great to see what services are on offer. I was very surprised to see how popular the lolly/candy bar option is. There were about 3 different stations set up offering their service for weddings. I think the lolly bar is a great idea because you can combine this with the wedding favour. Otherwise, you could do both, completely up to you. Check this out:

Another fun idea that seems to be popping up frequently at weddings are the photo booths. These are awesome for all of your guests, particularly once the formalities of the reception have finished. Your guests can take some cool, funky, different photos of themselves and friends at your wedding. Also, most of these photo booth services provide you, the bridal couple, a copy of all of these photos in an album for you to keep.

Celebrants, wedding cake makers, photographers and dress makers were at the expo and were happy to give everyone as much information as possible to assist with creating the perfect wedding day.

'Tis the season to get Married?

We all have to decide on when we want to hold our wedding and depending on what time of year you plan to marry your loved one, will ultimately determine the style of wedding you should consider having.

Summer in Australia is always a beautiful time of year, especially for the warmer weather and longer days. December - January are the peak holiday months and most destination are fairly crowded with tourists. Your friends and family are most likely away holidaying themselves.  If you are looking at a Summer wedding maybe consider a late summer wedding around February when the holidays are over.

beach-wedding-ceremony

Although summer is a gorgeous time of year, it is quite hot!  Outdoor ceremonies are most common in Summer but you will just need to make sure you choose a time of day where your guests and bridal party won't be standing or sitting for too long in the sun. Studies by the Queensland Government have found that the hottest times of the day are between 10am - 3pm.  We don't want anyone fainting or getting too burnt during the ceremony now do we? And remember the groom and groomsmen will likely be suited up from neck to toe.

The Summer season can provide some amazing location for you to have your dream wedding. There are many beautiful destinations along the east and west coast of Australia which provide gorgeous beach-side venues for ceremonies and receptions.

But lets stay away from talking too much about Summer as we are currently in Autumn and there are some fantastic bridal wear, flowers and colours to consider.

Engaged...where to from here?

This website started from a simple idea that came about after my sister and her boyfriend became engaged. I was asked to assist with organising their wedding because they are moving away from their home town and won’t be able to easily access the Internet and all the information required to coordinate their wedding.

engaged!!

I told them I would definitely love to assist them. I love organising and planning so to help with their wedding would be amazing. But I had one question to ask them first “what style/theme of wedding do you have in mind?”  I was told to go to the Sirromet Wines website to get an idea and this is where my creative thinking came into play.

I now have an idea of a theme but where do I go from here? I need to decide on a venue for the ceremony and location, then tie in the colours, decorations etc. However, after thinking about this for some time, I couldn’t recall when they actually said they want to hold the wedding.

After some discussion, with the married couple to be, I now have a rough idea of the season/s they wish to be married in, either between January and March or October.

And now ladies and gentleman, this is where all the fun begins......
